At StoryStream, women are driving innovation, leading teams, and shaping the future of eCommerce. Being a driving force for women in tech means more than hiring more women, it’s about genuine care throughout the recruitment process, offering flexibility, and championing continued mentorship. But across the tech industry, there’s still work to do. Only 29% of the UK tech workforce are women, and just 11% of executive roles are held by women (Forbes).
Diversity is about more than numbers; it’s about creating an environment where everyone can thrive.
At StoryStream, we’re proud that women are in leadership positions throughout our tech, sales, marketing and customer success teams, shaping the future of social shopping. We are committed to ensuring women are supported at every stage of their careers. That’s why we’ve introduced an enhanced maternity policy, which includes 12 weeks of full pay and a return-to-work bonus. We also actively enable positive action by supporting organisations such as codebar, which helps underrepresented groups enter the tech industry. Additionally, we have implemented an adjusted recruitment process designed to reduce bias and create equal opportunities for all.
This International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating the incredible women at StoryStream who are leading the way, as they share their experiences, advice, and what it means to be a woman in business today.
MINI – CFO
‘As CFO, I am privileged to be part of an organisation that champions equality and ensures every individual, regardless of gender, feels valued and empowered. At StoryStream, we cultivate an environment where everyone has the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential. We are committed to treating every employee fairly and respectfully, making our company a truly great place to work.
I am particularly proud that we were recognised as the Best Workplace for Women 2024, a testament to our dedication to fostering an inclusive, flexible and supportive environment. With opportunities for professional growth, training and development, we strive to help each person become the best they can be.
I would also like to acknowledge our CEO, Alex Vaidya; our COO, Cameron Franks; and our CTO, Joe Baskerville. Their commitment to equality and fairness and their leadership has ensured that the company is a place where everyone can succeed and feel valued. Together, we are dedicated to maintaining a supportive and empowering atmosphere for all our team members.’
ANNABEL – Customer Success Manager
‘My advice for women at the beginning of their career is to have an open mind and ask questions! There are opportunities all around when you open up your perspective. When I joined StoryStream I had never worked in a tech startup environment, nor had I heard of a CSM before. Three years later I feel very fortunate to be evolving in my role as CSM, supported by a creative and supportive culture.’
CHARLOTTE – Head of Marketing
‘What it means to be a woman in tech and at StoryStream.. where do I start? I have come from an FMCG background and never really considered a career in tech until I came across StoryStream. StoryStream to me is exciting tech, where (like brand management in FMCG) you can see the impact you have on a brand, which makes the work really rewarding. More than just our technology is the company and the people who make it, at StoryStream this is not a cliché but truly the reality. There is an energy and a team support network at StoryStream which, personally, gives everything I do a deeper meaning and this drives me. I’m not just doing my work for business sales, I’m doing it for my co-workers, I’m supporting them and they’re supporting me, because we are all passionate about where we work and the people we’re working with, we want the business to succeed but we also want to see each other succeed. This is a game-changer. This is what gets me through busy days and keeps me motivated. Never underestimate the importance of company culture, it is the responsibility of everyone in the business, and it takes a truly wonderful group of people to create a good one, and that is what we have at StoryStream. I’ve grown more in the last two years of my career than I had in the first eight, coincidence? As for international women’s day, I am surrounded by cheerleaders from all genders and this has given me the strength and confidence I need to be the woman I am today in my career, so thank you all.’
CLOVER – Sales Director
‘My female colleagues inspire me every day! They are intelligent, driven, ambitious, and super passionate about what we do, which is why we have females in key positions across the business.
To women just starting out – trust yourself, embrace every challenge, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Your voice matters, and your perspective is invaluable. Take up space!
Having worked in sales for most of my career, a traditionally male-dominated field, I’ve witnessed firsthand how women thrive in these roles. Success in sales requires strong communication, the ability to seek out and solve challenges, build lasting relationships, and remain adaptable and persistent—traits that women excel in and bring to the table every day.’
MILENKA – Service Delivery Executive
‘I am inspired by every woman at StoryStream, as they prove that we can achieve anything we set our minds to. They lead by example, overcoming obstacles and sharing their knowledge and support with the team, this motivates me to achieve my own goals and grow in my career.’
ZOE – Customer Success Manager
‘The automotive industry is full of surprises, especially the incredible women I have the privilege of working with internally at StoryStream and at VWG and Porsche. Their drive (pun intended!) and expertise are truly inspiring.’
HANNAH – Senior Implementation Manager
‘At StoryStream, I feel that every voice matters, and as a woman, I feel truly respected and heard. It’s really inspiring to be able to work in an environment where women are supported, valued, and empowered to lead. We also have some incredible female managers at StoryStream and inclusivity and equality is continuously championed.’
EMMA – Head of Customer Success
‘I’ve been lucky to work with some inspirational women in my career. As I am now in a leadership position, I have a responsibility to empower other women to grow and embrace opportunities – if I can inspire just one woman, then I’ll be proud. My advice, your unique perspective is your power, don’t be afraid to speak up and get involved.’
HARRIET – Service Delivery Executive
‘Working at Storystream has given me the confidence and support to grow and succeed. I’m surrounded by an incredible team, including the inspiring women who lead by example, push boundaries, and uplift those around them. Their dedication and perseverance motivate me every day, empowering me to reach my goals and continue my own journey of growth.’
The women of StoryStream share a powerful message: success comes from confidence, curiosity, and the drive to take up space. Their advice? Ask questions, embrace challenges, and trust your own abilities, because growth happens outside your comfort zone. Many highlight the impact of strong mentorship and a supportive team, proving that the right environment makes all the difference. Whether it’s thriving in tech, sales, or leadership, adaptability, communication, and collaboration stand out as the skills that drive success. Above all, their stories show the importance of uplifting each other and stepping forward with courage.
