History
At the first LA Auto Show there were 99 cars on display, and if you were lucky you might have mingled with Henry Ford, or Barney Oldfield. The auto show was not responsible for putting LA on the automobile ‘map’ however it was responsible for helping LA take the lead in the automotive industry. The event had to be extended, as more people needed to be accommodated for, as the event became a catalyst in the advancement of what normal was. The show allowed people to understand that because of the transportation advancements that were beginning to take place, they could now live in the country and commute to the city for work. LA had became “the banner automobile city of the world” in 1907, and the LA Auto Show played a huge role in making that happen.
LA Auto Show 2018
Over a hundred years have passed since 1907 and the LA Auto Show is still living up to its reputation. As LA is the largest car buying market in the United States it is worth noting that not only does the LA Auto Show have the power to drive car sales and trends, they have the power to support positive changes within the automotive industry, hence why they have extended the show to include Automobility LA – an event where the future of the automotive industry is discussed, the latest improvements revealed and newest vehicles unveiled.
‘As the automotive industry shifts toward electric and alternative fuel powertrains, this year’s AutoMobility LA will showcase new technologies to further its commitment to autonomy, connectivity, electrification, and sharing.
It is exciting to see how many volume and luxury brands are offering greener mobility options.’ – (official press release)
In conjunction with the LA Auto Show and Automobility LA, guests will also be able to attend the Marketing Automotive conference, where automotive marketing leaders share insights on how they are moving their business and industry forward.

Debuts
Porsche have confirmed that they will be revealing the next generation 911 – this is a particularly exciting reveal, as you’ll no longer have to hear about what is to come from Porsche, you’ll get to see it! Toyota’s debuts include hybrids, and from this bit of information the shift within the automotive market can definitely be seen. Toyota will also be debuting special edition vehicles, whilst Volvo Cars are debuting the S60 – its US-built sedan.
Displays
Along with vehicle debuts, there will be a wide variety of vehicles on display, including Porsche’s new GTS models, and Toyota’s RAV4 Adventure, Hybrid HV, Tundra Limited, and Prius Advanced. Volvo Car’s vehicle display for the LA Auto Show includes an XC60 made from Recycled Materials, XC60, XC90, XC40, V90 and V60 Cross Country. By displaying their XC60 made from recycled materials, Volvo are displaying what the future holds, as by 2025 they want all the plastic components within their vehicles to be made of at least 25% recycled materials. This could be a total game changer in the way that vehicles are becoming more eco-friendly. Not only will it be about the emissions data in the future, but possibly about the material matter too.
Test Drives
Enthusiasts attending the LA Auto Show will also have the opportunity to test drive the S60 R Design and award winning XC40 from Volvo Cars. Whilst the selection from Toyota is far wider, and includes the Avalon, Highlander and Tacoma. So if you love driving this is the area for you. Just imagine being able to experience driving a variety of the latest vehicles all in one location!
